A live sound piece contrasting harsh soundscapes with repeated Arab pop vocals, on migration, control and fear.
The sound piece explores migration, control, and violence themes, using ‘harsh’ soundscapes contrasted by excessive repetitions of vocal excerpts from Arab pop songs to mimic populist fascist mantras. The Arab pop songs symbolise escapism through easy listening to dance-inducing music and the soundscapes being reality’s safety and sudden discomfort. All Over the Place investigates how fear can be controlled and uncontrolled. It uses sound as a place of isolation and non-isolation — listened to from headphones or public speakers.
